Daniel Savard is the founder of Cons. Decodesign DS inc. He facilitated research and development in planning for more than 30 years with the Province of New Brunswick and has worked in urban, regional and community planning, risk management and administrative functions for the private, public and non-profit organizations. He has a Master of Urban Planning degree from McGill University, a Master of Business Administration from the University of New Brunswick, and a Bachelor ‘ès science’ in geography from Université du Québec à Montréal. During his years of work in the field of planning for sustainable communities, he coordinated the implementation of the first Sustainable Community Design (SCD) subdivision project in Canada at ‘Le Village en haut du Ruisseau’ (Dieppe NB), which received numerous national and international awards and recognitions, and other projects that include the SCD, New Urbanism and Smart Growth principles.
Mr. Savard was recognized for his work with SCD in 2014 by the Gulf of Maine Council ‘for outstanding innovation, creativity, and commitment to protecting natural resources within the Gulf of Maine.’ He has been a member of the Sustainable Communities Partnership which includes organizations such as Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, the Association of Municipal Administrators of New Brunswick, Université de Moncton and the Urban and Community Studies Institute of UNB. Through the partnership, Mr. Savard is the main facilitator of the series titled ‘Fiscal Impacts & Design,’ that help communities and builders/developers to better position their communities and developments to 1) encourage more efficient and fiscally responsible developments; 2) attract investments, and knowledge workers and affluent retirees to immigrate in their region; and 3) help decision-makers to build more sustainable subdivisions and communities.
His work with the SCD concept has been accomplished through a partnership with Randall Arendt, well-known American planning author on Conservation design for subdivisions.
